Artcobell awarded patent for NXT MOV Seating's distinctive design and function

Temple, TX, May 2024 – Artcobell, a leading furniture manufacturer serving and supporting K-12 educational environments, announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a design patent for its NXT MOV chair. As the embodiment of a seamless melding of design and engineering, NXT MOV was created in direct response to studies that show how micromovements help prevent student fatigue and promote engagement.

U.S. Patent No. D1,011,110 complements the existing utility patent awarded for NXT MOV in 2023.

“The realm of classroom chair design hasn’t dramatically changed over the last few decades, so this is quite an accomplishment for us as a manufacturer,” said Ken Taylor, director of engineering at Artcobell. “We’re thrilled and grateful we were able to create something fresh and innovative in the education interiors space by rethinking one of the most foundational pieces of furniture.”

A student sitting on an NXT MOV chair is capable of 360-degree movement around the chair, while the chair also moves 360 degrees underneath the person. The larger NXT MOV seating collection consists of five chairs, offering comfortable and durable selections for various types of educational spaces and learning styles: four-leg chairs, cantilever and stools that facilitate movement without being distracting to teachers or students nearby.

“The ability for students to have some movement and flexibility is key in supporting an engaging learning experience and fostering student success,” said Q Design’s Rick Joutras, who collaborated with Artcobell in the development of the chair. “NXT MOV is proof that both form and function can work together in harmony without having to sacrifice one over the other.”
